About the NARCliM project
The NSW and Australian Regional Climate Modelling (NARCliM) project brings together trusted science and broad expertise to deliver world-recognised regional climate projections for NSW and its regions. These projections describe plausible future climates, based on the latest available emissions scenarios, to help users understand and plan for an uncertain future. State and local governments, industry, and research organisations use NARCliM data to prepare for the impacts of climate change.
NARCliM is led by the NSW Government with support from the Australian Capital Territory, South Australia, Victoria and Western Australia governments, as well as National Computational Infrastructure Australia, the University of New South Wales and Murdoch University. Previously known as the NSW and ACT Regional Modelling project, the successful expansion of partnerships across the country has resulted in NARCliM now being known as the NSW and Australian Regional Climate Modelling project.
NARCliM is a critical part of the NSW Government’s commitment to improving the state’s resilience to climate change. A key output of the investment is the development of locally relevant climate data and information products, which are delivered through the NARCliM project. The quality and value of the NARCliM project to NSW – and to Australia – is reflected by its growth in subnational partnerships as well as its inclusion in the National Partnership for Climate Projections, which began in 2022, of which the NSW Government is a key partner.
NARCliM projections are always improving as new information becomes available and global climate models are improved. Explore the following sections to find out more about the NARCliM project.
